How the generator works
Names are selected from a curated database of readings and kanji, filtered by chosen preferences (gender, style, kanji priority). Results prioritise practical kanji that are easy to write and widely recognised.
Options explained
Gender
Select male, female or unisex. Unisex choices favour neutral readings and non-gendered kanji.
Style
Modern (short, international), Classic (traditional kanji), Nature (botanical/landscape), Unique (less common combinations).
Why kanji preference matters
Choosing "Simple" favours common kanji for daily usability. Choosing "Meaning" chooses kanji aligned with a semantic theme (e.g., "light", "ocean"). Verify kanji legality before registration.
Practical workflow
- Generate a shortlist on the live generator (3–8 names).
- Open each full entry to review alternate kanji, kana, audio, and popularity/context notes.
- Write chosen kanji beside the surname to check visual balance and stroke complexity.
- Say the full name in natural sentences; test likely nicknames.
- Confirm permitted kanji with the relevant municipal office if registering in Japan.
